Colin Remodel

“The new kitchen and family room make me feel like I’m on vacation in my own home. Before starting the project, I didn’t truly understand how great the end result was going to turn out. However, I completely trusted Monica with the design and we are thrilled.”

BEFORE PHOTOS

This house was built in 1927 and had a few modifications over the years but it was time for a full overhaul. The kitchen served as the everyday entrance to the home. So with 3 boy’s school and sports stuff, they needed better storage to stash coats and shoes. They also wanted to add a dishwasher, have room for a larger refrigerator and incorporate a breakfast bar.

PROPOSED DESIGN

All of the appliances and the sink were relocated in the new kitchen design. This allowed the sink to be moved away from a wall positioning it looking into the new family room. The cabinets included full extension drawer glides maximizing every square inch of space. A shallow wall of tall cabinets created even more efficient storage. One side was for shoes and jackets while the other was pantry storage. The pantry shelves were set at the heights of the contents creating more shelving space.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

When someone asked the homeowner, “Was it hard living through a remodel?” she replied, “We’re so thrilled with the end result…it’s kind of like having a baby, you forget how bad the labor was…”

The new family room was added on and was not opened up to the kitchen until it was time to start that phase. This allowed the family to use the old kitchen right up to when the old cabinets had to come out.

COMPLETED PROJECT

The kitchen turned out like all of the photos Marie had been clipping out for years. The white shaker doors make the space feel bigger and the flat drawer fronts allowed the customer to mix old style bin pull handles with label handles for the kid’s craft supplies. The ground quartz stone countertop is durable and easy to maintain for a busy family.
